BIOGRAPHY

Tianhong Ying entered the PhD program in the Department of Political Science at Michigan State University in the fall of 2018. He studies political philosophy and comparative politics, focusing on the early modern political philosophy, especially the relationship between politics and religion. Tianhong graduated from Renmin University of China with a B.A. (2015) and an M.A. (2018) in political science. In his Master thesis, Tianhong discussed Locke’s thoughts on religious toleration, specifically Locke’s transformation from intolerance to tolerance in the 1660s. He hopes to further his research on the relationship between politics and religion in the early modern age during his PhD study. In his free time, Tianhong enjoys running, swimming, watching movies and travelling.
