SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOW EMERITUS

Werner J. Dannhauser, formerly of Cornell University and winner of Cornell’s Clark Teaching Award. A distinguished and nationally recognized teacher and scholar of political philosophy and Jewish thought, Professor Dannhauser is the author of Nietzsche’s View of Socrates. He is also an influential essayist and controversialist.

 

SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOWS

W illiam B. Allen is Professor of Political Science at Michigan State University and director of the department's MPA program. He has served as Chairman of the United States Commission on Civil Rights, as a member of the National Council on the Humanities, as Dean of James Madison College at Michigan State, and as Director of the State Council of Higher Education of Virginia.

Professor Allen is the author of The Federalist Papers: A Commentary (with Kevin A. Cloonan); Let the Advice Be Good: A Defense of Madison’s Democratic Nationalism; and Habits of Mind: Fostering Access and Excellence in Higher Education (with Carol M. Allen); and editor of Works of Fisher Ames; George Washington: A Collection; and The Essential Antifederalist (with Gordon Lloyd).

 

 

Steven Kautz is Associate Professor of Political Science at Michigan State University and Associate Dean of the Honors College. He is the author of Liberalism and Community, a defense of classical liberalism against communitarian critics of liberalism.

He has written widely on the political philosophy of liberalism, American political thought, and American and comparative constitutional law, focusing especially on the rule of law, toleration, and privacy. He is currently working on projects on the political thought of Abraham Lincoln and on democratic citizenship and the culture wars. Professor Kautz taught at Emory University from 1988-1999.
